Welcome!
Hi, I’m Sarah Brown Wessling. I’m tackling the complexity of teaching with mindfulness and purpose.
Classroom
To teachers, from a teacher.
Experience
Teaching is a complex work and doing it with deliberateness takes care. When we open our practice, we open potential.
Insight
Whether you’re in need of a spark, a glimpse of hope, or a reminder of why we give ourselves to this work, this blog will meet you there with practical ideas, creative solutions, and stories to sustain us.
Ideas
Becoming better is the messiest work. It’s uncertain and humbling, even raw. But it’s also hopeful and affirming when we discover that the smallest moments accumulate into the most significant change. Here’s to wondering about the small moments throughout this mini-blog.
Answers
Teacher to teacher, learner to learner, this weekly advice column is where we value and tackle messy questions, seek honest responses, and try to cultivate some wisdom along the way.
My teaching story didn’t begin with a decision; rather, it was a realization of something that I must have always known. I didn’t choose to be a teacher. I was meant to be one. Since the days of building neighborhood schools as a child or the countless hours I spent in my mother’s fourth-grade classroom, I have always been most myself when I am teaching. 26 years of students and 15 years of working with teachers have taught me that our most important work is human work.
It is with great passion and humility that I open up my practice here. Already, I’m looking forward to learning with you in this ever-growing classroom.
